Fall Blush Tones: The Perfect ‘Nude’ in Beauty & Fashion

I’m a sucker for a good nude.

I don’t know when it happened, but my wardrobe has transformed from being all black to becoming different shades of nudes and neutral tones. The obsession with neutral shades started about a year ago and since then I’ve managed to completely alter my stye to only neutral tones. Whether it’s the summer months or the present transition to the cooler temperatures, I can’t help myself when I walk into a store. I’m going straight to those neutral tones!

It all started with a lipstick. I had found my “perfect nude” and from that moment on, I had to find everything in this colour. You’re probably thinking to yourself “Shauna what lipstick was it” and if you knew me well, you probably wouldn’t be surprised by my answer. A few years ago, L’Oreal released a collection of lipstick that were exclusive to certain nudes. These nudes were the perfect shade for each of their celebrity ambassadors, and I fell in love HARD with “Jennifer’s Nude”. On the website, it appears like a dusty pink and in person I could describe it as my nature lip colour but better. It blended beautifully, complimented my natural skin tone and brought life to my features. This dusty pink blush nude tone is a mouthful, but THAT is the tone I need in my life.

So I just started buying and wearing everything to mimic that.

Which brings me to today’s post of using a monochromatic method when pairing your makeup to certain outfits.

The Makeup

This look I am declaring my Go To beauty look for the fall and surprise surprise it’s a neutral toned look. I know the beauty world is tired of seeing neutral tone palettes, but these looks are so easy to wear and can be worn with just about every outfit. For me, my go to neutral palette is by far the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. When I first started blogging, I wrote post after post talking about how much I love this palette and can use it for just about any look and I still stand by that. This look took two shades and two brushes to create. With a blending brush and liner brush, I blended two warmer brown tones over my lid and under my eye to create a light smokey eye.

To tie in this eye look, I used a dusty mauve shade on my cheeks blended with bronzer (because bronzer is NEVER an option), and my favourite lip colour. I consider this look wearable for everyday, but could look just as beautiful for a night out. More importantly it’s playing up the key beauty trends of stepping towards 90s inspired makeup of wearing brown and neutral tones as well as wearing a monochromatic look for your entire face. Something that leaves your skin looking radiant while complimenting your other features like eyes and lips.

The Outfit

Now for this little number that I was gifted last year from Tobi. A sweater dress for fall is pretty much the equivalent to floral print for spring… a no brainer. Throw it on and you look like you put a huge amount of effort into your outfit when really it just feels like you’re walking around in a blanket. I restyled this look differently from when I originally received it, and I wanted to wear it more as a layering piece over a white shirt. It looked smarter (as the brits would say) adding more of a professional look to the outfit. With an added belt, I pulled the dress in to highlight my waistline.

Styling Tip: Looking for a way to re wear oversized pieces in your wardrobe? Maybe you bought something that was trendy and now feel like a sack of potatoes in it…. A simple trick is adding a belt. Belts are a great way to restyle certain pieces or adding something to change the look (i.e. a chunky belt with a buckle for an edgier look or a belt made from a rope for a boho vibe). By wearing it at your smallest point or even at your natural waistline will help create a shape.

Then to finish the look off, I chose these fun little velvet boots with gold plating to add something fun and interesting to the look.

What I really wanted to highlight was the colour palette of the look. The dress again is in a similar pink nude tone paired with a light brown belt complimented my makeup and together creates a whole look centred around my favourite fall tone.

An easy way to create a look is to choose a colour palette or tone you are trying to achieve and from their building off of that through clothing, accessories, makeup, etc. Together it will create a monochromatic outfit made up of complimentary tones which will create dimension and an overall chic look!
