Everybody wants to be successful and yet, there are multiple posts (including this one) every week giving tips on how to be more productive.

I can’t help but laugh at that… mostly because I’m so trained now to know that if I want something out of life, I need to give everything I possibly can to it.

Like I said, today’s post is about sharing what I’ve learnt when it comes to achieving and working towards your goals, and the main tools and tricks that I use to help me every week. I don’t consider myself to be an expert at this, but I naturally am a hardworking person who has found a few simple tools to help me on those less motivated days.

We all know those days, the ones where you wake up later or stay in bed that extra hour and wonder if it would be socially acceptable to just hide away in your bedroom eating snacks and watching Netflix all day. Those are the days where you need the extra pick me up to get you going!

I consider these tips to be not only easy and accessible for everyone because finding your motivation doesn’t really cost a lot, there’s no magic motivational juice or vitamin that’s going to force you to work. You have to find it within yourself!

So here are my three tips on how you can have a more productive week to bring you closer to your goals!

Use a Planner, and Stick to It.

I am someone who will go out and buy a new agenda or planner, and end up only using it consistently for the first few months. This year, I really have tried (and sometimes) failed to be more consistent with keeping everything I do and need to do on track. I use my planner not only to schedule out my weeks, but it helps me set up weekly goals I would like to achieve, as well as plan meals, and of course future blog posts I would like to work on.

It really has made a difference in my ability to be productive and successful in what I want to achieve every week since I can see what exactly I have done and what I haven’t. A great tip that I’ve implanted into my planner are weekly goals. These can be tasks that you are finally getting around to doing or for myself I like to hit a certain number of hours when it comes to dance training as well as work I’ve done for my blog.

Breaking down bigger goals over a course of a few weeks does help in regards to taking away the stress that can come from being overwhelmed as well as keep you on track so you don’t get lost or sidetracked.

One way I’ve made sure to use my planner is to set some time aside every Monday morning and write out what I hope to do throughout that week. This is a simple but effective way to make sure I’m using my planner and that I also refocus myself as a new week begins!

It’s also extremely important to buy a planner that you want to use. Something that is aesthetically pleasing to you, will make you want to bring it with you (if needed) and to keep coming back to it week after week!

Have a Visual Reminder of your Goals

One of the tools that has really helped me stay focus and committed is to visually place reminders of those big goals in your space. For myself, that can be done through a dream board, photos, certain quotes that have a special meaning to me, etc. It needs to be something that will instantly remind you of why you’re working so hard (especially when you’re feeling negative and unmotivated).

I like to tell myself that when I am about to not do something such as workout, sit and write new content, or work in my dance studio, etc. that it’s not a priority. Chances are if you really care about something, you’re going to take a moment and rethink about that decision.

There will be days where life gets away from you, and you can’t devote time to those personal goals or dreams, but if you’re still mentally focused on the big picture, you’re not going to allow yourself to get off track or to distract yourself when you do have the time.

Be Productive. Not Busy.

There is a significant difference between people who are busy and people who are being productive. Especially in the era of social media, a lot of people like to portray this image that they’re busy living their life and look how fabulous it is. Realistically, more people are busy editing the photos or posts throughout the day rather than actually being productive about it.

I won’t lie, even myself on days when I have been working hard from morning until evening, I like to give myself a social media version of a pat on the back, but there’s a difference. My one post at the end of the day or after a long training session is not the equivalent to the 10 photos someone has posted about their “crazy day at work”.

To be productive, you need to be actually working. Not saying you’re working while only doing a few tasks. If you devote a full hour to work where you are 100% focused on just the task and not your phone or other distractions, yes you weren’t “working” all day like those other people, but what you achieved in one hour they probably only did after their 8 hour day.

Some of my best work has been done in 1-2 hour increments, because in that time all of my attention has gone to that task.

Quality over Quantity - meaning, what have you done in the last hour that has brought you closer to your goals? The answer to that will tell you if you’re someone who is productive or someone just trying to be busy.

Final Thoughts

In a time when everyone is trying to get ahead, trying to be the next millionaire or champion at something, it’s important to really assess as to whether what you’re doing is helping you or hindering your progress. These three tips are simple - but that’s what makes them so difficult to follow, because it is easy to get distracted and to not be consistent with that you want out of life. Those who can become successful are those that give a part of their day (EVERY DAY) to their main goal(s). It’s not about being motivated to work or productive when you feel like it, it’s about knowing what matters most to you and not stopping until you get it.

I hope these three simple tips were helpful and a good reminder that it doesn’t take anything fancy or complicated to have a successful week. It just takes hard work and dedication, and I hope these three tools can help you with with that.
