How to Achieve Vampy Autumnal Makeup

makeup, beauty, fall, products, autumn, elf, urban decay, nyx, Marc Jacobs,

With the changing of seasons also comes a change in beauty trends. Every fall season, dark lips in the deepest shades from burgundy to purple can be found in most autumnal trends. As for eyes, warm toned eyeshadows have gained increasing popularity. With almost every brand releasing their own version of burnt oranges and red toned browns, everyone wants to achieve this look.

Over the summer, I ditched the heavy makeup and opted for a more natural glowy look. I shared my favourite products to achieve dewy skin, the perfect complexion, and bright eyes. I barely wore eyeshadow and opted for nude pink shades of lipstick with a glossy finish. My makeup routine was simple to say the least. As the August humidity (which made a few appearances in September as well) disappeared, so did the bronzed summer skin. Now I can’t help but be excited to transform my beauty routine. As much as I have grown to love simple makeup looks, I really love to play around with makeup and try out different looks. As someone who started off as just a beauty blogger, I do have a decent size collection of makeup to play around with. I will be honest, makeup is probably one of my favourite things to buy. You just can’t go wrong with it. It’s a win win win because I enjoy the experience, I love trying new products, and wearing new makeup just makes me feel amazing. I have recently purchased some new products, so I wanted to share some of those in this post. Now let’s get onto the look itself!

This fall, I wanted to try a look that could be worn day or night. Generally when I do my makeup, I automatically reach for bronze shades and warm toned browns to create a smokey eye and a nude lipstick. However, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try a cool toned look. I see so many beauty gurus trying out cool toned makeup and to be honest I was always worried of how it would look on me. With trying a different kind of look, I decided to keep it simple for eyes, but pack a punch with a deep lipstick. The focus for my autumnal makeup would be the lipstick. I was inspired by many photos from Pinterest of girls wearing this deep plum or merlot shade of lipstick. I love a vampy lip, but I wanted it to be wearable for everyday as this can be intimidating to just about anyone. Even though I consider myself to be comfortable with makeup, I still find myself a little scared when approaching a dark lipstick.

How will it wear throughout the day?

Will it rub onto my teeth?

Will it fade weirdly?

These are only some of the questions that pop into mind when trying a deep shade of lipstick. The shade of lipstick that I wore for this look is Nyx’s Transylvania. It appears darker in the bottle, but on the lips it is this beautiful plum shade. With two layers this lipstick is completely opaque. My tip for you if you are trying a new shade of lipstick, especially those that seem out of your comfort zone, I suggest going to the drugstore. There are plenty of great options that are easily comparable to high end lip products without spending a fortune!

Next onto eyes, I wanted to create a look that wouldn’t overpower the lipstick, but still play up the cool tones of this look. Obviously I had to do some sort of smokey eye effect, because who doesn’t love blended smoked out eye shadow. One of the new products I couldn’t wait to try was the Morphe 35O palette. I mean everyone has heard of this palette. Beauty gurus on Youtube have all done at least one video where they discuss this hyped palette. When I first opened it, I have to admit the excitement over Morphe is very real. The Morphe 35O is all things autumn in a palette. The shades are a combination of warm and cool tone browns with complimentary shades of oranges and reds along with plenty of shimmers. When I swatched a few shades, even though some of the brown tones are powdery, the formula itself is creamy and vibrant. To create a smokey look I began by applying a warm brown into the crease to use as my transition shade. From there I applied this deep cool toned brown deeper into the crease and blended the two shades together. This is the base of the smokey eye. For the lid, I chose a shimmer that was a shade lighter than my lid to brighten up my eyes as well as blend out the harsh lines on the crease. For under my eye,  I took the same shade used in my crease and blended them to create a smokey effect. Finally to finish off my eye make up I used a pencil liner across my lash line, blending it out with a smudge brush. I really love the Marc Jacobs liners because, unlike most pencil liners, these glide beautifully on the eye and are extremely pigmented (so don’t use a heavy hand unless you want to look like a racoon).

Stepping away from that summer glow, I really love a matte finish for my face makeup. Since I have combination skin (especially with the change in weather), I began with a hydrating primer mist and then used a high coverage foundation and concealer. It has been awhile, but I had to use one of my favourite foundations the Urban Decay All Nighter. Using the ELF contour kit (which is a steal btw!), I powdered under my eyes and used a light contour for the hollows of my cheeks. I will be honest, even though I love autumn, I HATE losing my tan. I find my skin always looks tired and drained because there’s literally no colour to my cheeks. Therefore, when I am back to my pasty self, I use a bronzer from the ELF palette and a mauve blush to bring some life back to my face. In no way do I appear overly bronzed, but I really use it to just bring some colour to my skin so I look healthy and alive.

The final look is vampy and screams I mean business. I don’t consider this to be a complicated makeup look, but it is definitely a step up from my summer beauty routine! My tip for you is that if you want to wear this for a night out, simply add a deeper blush and some lashes to create a more sultry effect.

  3. I love this look! I've used the same lip colors and I found using a different applicator than the one they gave you to do a thin layer keeps it from looking to dry on your lips and gives it a more natural look. The Morphe 350 pallet is LIFE and I still love my Maybelline Master Concealer. Best dupe for Nars Radiant Concealer, in my opinion.
