Accessorizing for Summer: Trend Report

Despite the gloomy weather we’ve been experiencing here in Montreal, summer is just around the corner! As always, I’ve been browsing online and in store and I have to say that accessories are a huge feature for the current spring and summer seasons. To be honest, I would consider myself to be bit of a minimalist when it comes to accessorizing my outfits simply because I don’t wear a lot of jewelry or think to grab anything unless it is a necessity. If I think to grab a necklace or pair of earrings, it is usually an after thought. A personal goal of mine is to incorporate more interesting accessories that can be paired with multiple outfits. Accessories are the sprinkles and cherry on top of an outfit sundae. With the right choice, they take an everyday look to a whole other level. I chose three major trends that I have noticed when shopping and included some of my picks, both high end and low end, of each accessory.

Trend 1: Strappy Sandals

Remember that gladiator sandal trend that was huge a few years ago? Honestly, I hated the trend and found majority of the styles to be gaudy. Gladiator sandals have been modernized once again, but I still opt for a more delicate version of those strappy sandals. I especially love brands that have created sandals with ankle wraps where you could wrap higher up the leg or keep it minimal around your ankle. Various styles of sandals such as espadrilles or wedges all have their own version of this trend. I find that it can add an element of effortless style with a hint of boho. This trend would be a perfect match for pretty much any piece in your summer wardrobe. With the right outfit, these sandals could easily be worn day into night and should be on your must have list for any vacation.

Trend 2: Statement Earrings

Of all pieces of jewelry, earrings have got to be the easiest element with a huge impact on your overall look. The right pair not only creates an interesting addition to your outfit, but can even highlight your beauty and hairstyle. One of my greatest inspirations has got to be Sazan Hendrix  who wore a beautiful pair of statement earrings (as seen in photo below) which were highlighted by her hair length and style. Ever since cutting my hair, I have been on the hunt for my perfect pair of statement earrings. If you’re a casual jeans and tees kind of girl, wearing statement earrings will make it seem like you’ve spent a lot more time on deciding what to wear. I love statement earrings that bring a pop of colour or geometric shapes. If you are new to statement jewelry or normally have minimal accessories, look for earrings in a neutral colour with a hint of metallic so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming. You can definitely go to your average high street store and find an affordable pair as you dive into the statement trend.

Trend 3: Scarves

For those who live in cold climate countries, you definitely have enough experience wearing scarves in order to keep warm. With the rise in the choker trend led to the increased street styling of thin silk scarves worn by celebrities and influencers. When I first saw this trend, I was unsure of how I would be able to wear this look without feeling like a wannabe Parisian. My uncertainty soon changed into an obsession as I began saving every image I found of silk scarves on Pinterest and Instagram. I adore the various prints and pops of colour that can be added to any outfit just by adding a scarf. Wearing it around your neck, attached to your purse, or as a belt or headband, the options really are endless to the versatility of a silk scarf. This is also a great way to incorporate trending prints such as gingham or florals that would seem too bold to apply to your wardrobe. If you find the right print, a silk scarf could easily be worn through all seasons. This is definitely a piece that would be great to invest in once you find your perfect print.

And those are my three wish list trends for summer accessories. I hope you enjoyed this trend report and even inspired you to add some interesting accessories into your summer wardrobe.

    1. Obviously on the hottest day I wouldn't suggest wearing it, but like I said it's a great way to add a pop of colour worn as a traditional scarf or as a belt or accent on a purse. I completely agree with you for the earrings I adore them!
